Disclaimer:
As an empowerment speaker and goal strategist, you will find Nancy Nordstrom an effective navigator on your journey to creating the life you desire. However, as neither she, nor any Imagine Nation representative is a mental-health professional, she will not take on inner demons best treated by trained counselors; nor should any other "coach" of any sort. If you have issues that are beyond your ability to control, take them to a licensed professional, then come back to Imagine Nation where we will work together to advance you on your journey to realize your dreams!
Hello Nancy,

A lot has been happening with Imagine Nation, which would explain why time seems to be flying by -- I can't believe it's already July! As promised, 2008 is turning out to be quite a year of activity.

Normally this newsletter is about helping you achieve your dreams -- and the article below should help move you along. But in the meantime I have a couple of items in which your help is needed. Can you lend us a hand?

First, if you know of someone in need of positive reinforcement, or a company in need of motivational insights, share their information with one of our new marketing managers. You can contact them by clicking on the appropriate link on the left. When you do, I'll send you a copy of "Road Service" for taking time out of your day to help us grow.

Additionally, we are looking to schedule our weekend retreats. These workshop-filled getaways will offer you an opportunity to not only create positive change in your life, but allow you to relax and unwind in the process. If you are interested in attending one near you, well, that's where your help is needed! Send Karen Koenig, our Director of Operations, the information on good places to stay; you know, resorts, hotels, or lodges in your area and we'll take it from there. As a way of saying thanks we'll give you a 20% discount off the cost of the retreat!

For those of you who are local, here's some news: in September, I'll be teaching a three-week workshop at Mesa Community College. "Conscious Creation" is one of our most popular Imagine Nation workshops. This is an opportunity for you to take a hands-on approach to creating the life you deserve, with me as the facilitator -- how cool is that? Just click here to visit MCC's website and then click on the Community Education link to learn more, as well as to register.

As I said, we've been busy -- and there's more!

We have added two new websites! While Imagine-Nation.biz is getting a facelift you'll want to check out NancyNordstrom.com. This site outlines the speaking side of Imagine Nation and also has excerpts from the e-books that are available for download. Then, while surfing the net, why not visit my blog? Wow, I'm so 21st century, now! Actually, you'll find the site very useful, filled with insights and tips that you can apply to your life immediately, along with pod- and video-casts to download. I'm very excited about these new sites and would love to hear your thoughts when you visit them.

In the meantime, I hope you are staying cool and safe and moving forward on your dreams. Doing so with all the distractions of summer can be tough, but not impossible. Stay focus, stay active, and stay motivated. Even if you've slowed down the pace, it doesn't mean you need to stall altogether.

Until the next time... keep the dream alive,
Nancy

Focus
Child with MotherSplit Focus
Maintaining focus on your goal can be difficult this time of year. Summer heralds not only vacations -- yours and those of your co-workers, both of which add to your workload -- it also means the kids are out of school and in your hair! Your focus is constantly split between the pursuit of that goal and by those constantly seeking your attention.

It is no wonder that the positive change you were determined to make in January has returned to the back-burner for another six months.

As a work-from-home mother of two I can completely understand. Not am I only dealing with two children suddenly home ALL DAY LONG, my office is in an open part of the house where they (and their friends) can see AND TALK to me as they are coming and going. I have explained, REPEATEDLY, that unless I'm playing Spider Solitaire or Sudoku, they are not to bother me -- to no avail. With a number of large, creative projects on my plate in the pursuit of my own dream, dealing with constant interruptions makes it difficult to find the focus needed to get the job done. I'm sure you can relate. However, as these projects can't wait, and I choose to work at home so I can be with my children -- the question becomes, how to make it work?

Focus (cont.)
Man on Highwire Finding Focus
That last statement, for me, is key. I made a choice to work from home so I can be there for my children. My kids know that I'm there for them and take advantage of it often. This is good, really it is, when all is said and done. But then, getting things said and done eventually becomes the problem.

To help you find the focus you need to stay on track with your goals, to accomplish the things you want to, not just those you need to, let me share some insights that have helped me.
  1. You make choices daily. What you take on, what you allow into each moment of your life is a choice. You make this choice because, at the time, it is the right choice to make. Honor it, respect it, appreciate it. If you don't like the choice you are making, change it. Don't take on, don't let in, what does not add value to your day.
  2. Find uninterrupted time. Before the kids get up or after they've gone to bed are ideal times to focus on your goal. It's amazing just how much can be accomplished during these hours when the house is quiet.
  3. Take advantage of self-time. If you are trying to make a positive change in your life (the truest definition of any goal), then take alone time to: add items to your Two-Do lists*, create a plan of action, or make productive phone calls. Before work, on your lunch break, and during your ride home are great times to find "you" time to make advances on your dreams and goals.
  4. Be silent. Take a brain break to clear your head. Stop what you are doing (unless you are driving or operating a machine of some sort!), take a slow, deep breath, and clear your mind as you release it. When an idea comes into your head, acknowledge it then let it go. Focus on your breathing, on the temperature of the air around you, on the slight scent of your own body. Focus on these and let all other thoughts drift away. Take a few moments or several minutes. When you are done, or an interruption occurs, take another slow, deep breath -- smile --- and acknowledge this new moment and what it has brought you. It's amazing how clear-headed you will feel afterward.
Focus is essential to creating a productive, forward-moving life. Maintaining it is not always easy. You will find, though, that when you take the time to focus, on your loved ones, on your self, that opportunities, unrecognized previously, will be there for you to claim. And that resolution, so firmly made six months ago, will reclaim it's place as a priority in your life.
