helping you create a better world

March 2009
Vol. 4, Iss. 4, No. 22
Hello!
Look at me, I'm back on track and getting this new issue out in a timely manner. It really is just a matter of time before we catch up with ourselves!
Spring is in the air and if you are fortunate enough to live where you can bear witness to it's awakening, more power to you. Now I'm in Arizona, so sometimes we're a little light on the blossoming and blooming of color, but trust me, we get our share of glory around here. I took a drive up north recently and it was remarkable how green the desert was! Nothing is in bloom yet, but it will be soon.
After you've finished reading this edition, why not check out our Imagine Nation website with its new look? Or visit the Nancy Nordstrom site to view a video excerpt from a workshop or take a sneak peek into "Ah, the Tick!", an insightful story of a dog and a tick (yes, a tick!).
I'm here to help you rediscover a profit-making passion, define a forward-moving goal, or help you readjust an attitude to one that is better serving than where you may currently find yourself. Just drop me a note or give me a call. Until then... remember to keep the dream alive.

Planting for Tomorrow
Spring, this year especially, is a season of change. There is so much new and unknown in the making, and we wait in anticipation to see what will come to be. No matter how carefully we plan our harvest or plant our seeds, we never know exactly what will blossom, until Mother Nature brings it all to fruition.

nourishingFor many, that uncertainty can be stressful. The anticipation of what awaits us is coated with the concern for loved ones or the worry of job loss, pay reduction, or forced cutbacks.

What impresses me, though, is the innovation of individuals in times of trouble. As a goal strategist it is exciting to see people step out of the box (willing or not) that they have created for themselves and stretch toward a desire that has long been silent. Being forced to look for a new job, a new source of income, or a new home has allowed them to acknowledge the possibility in their dreams, rather than to relinquish them all together. Daily I hear from those who are excited about starting a new career, energized about their new business, or thrilled to be tapping into a hobby that can now supplement a tighter budget.

Stop the Panic
Times are tough, and things are scary, and we may worry day by day, hour by hour how we will make it through. What you need to realize first and foremost, however, is that you will survive. Your personal history proves that. How you will survive, well, that's up to you. You can do so by running around crying that the sky is falling (generally our gut reaction), or you can take the precaution of opening an umbrella while you consider your options. "Options": meaning choices which offer you possibility, a descriptor of "potential" which means the capacity to succeed. You have that capacity to succeed, to "become" what you want to be by using your options wisely.

And that's the downfall in the fountain of stress and frustration. We worry, we panic, and we make poor choices, reactionary choices, hence our certainty that the sky is falling. You must stop the panic, see the situation for what it is, clearly and definitively, and then consider and look to the long term. The choices you have made in the past created and defined this day you are living. Therefore, the choices you make today will create and define your future. If you do not take that future into consideration, aren't you destined to repeat the situation you are in now - again?

Those that are following their goals and dreams during a time when risk seems, well, too risky, are no different than you in their worries and fears. But they are looking forward, toward the future that holds the promise that comes with spring. And the choices they are making, the risks they are taking, occur to ensure that their future remains bright.

We don't know what will be made apparent until the time is ripe and the season is in full bloom. And then... likely, we will be surprised, despite our best efforts and planning to the contrary. We must adapt and can do so if we see our individual situations through hearts and minds that are clear, calm, and positive. In this clarity we will find opportunity and innovation and the ability to overcome and succeed. In doing so, we can move forward and continue to prove, as our history has shown, that once again we have risen above.

I've planted the seed - what happens to it now is up to you. Nourish it, feed it; allow it to grow so it can fuel your future with promise!
